Based in LA and born in DC, Alex got his start studying verité editing at the University of Chicago, under original members of Kartemquin Films. CUT TO a series of dark rooms across Los Angeles, where, over a decade, Alex built a reputation for empathetic & often comedic documentary editing, leading to collaborations with Fisher Stevens, Lauren Greenfield, Josh Greenbaum, Emily Kassie, Adam Bhala Lough, Clay Tweel, Ben Steinbauer, and Neil Berkeley, among others. Multiple shows Alex has cut have since reached #1 on both Netflix and Hulu, and another he worked on was the #1 most-watched HBO doc series of 2023.
Occasionally, Alex is credited as a writer/editor, but he will always bring a writer’s sense of story, character, structure, and pacing to every edit, big or small. On premium doc series, Alex's work has been nominated multiple times by the Television Academy, and his feature film work has screened and sold at Cannes, Tribeca, Austin, TIFF, Telluride, and SXSW. In 2025, his latest series for Lauren Greenfield, SOCIAL STUDIES (FX), was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, won the Gotham Award for Breakout Nonfiction Series, and won two Cinema Eye Honors, for Nonfiction Series, as well as Broadcast Editing.
